The Sky Blues are still expected to begin their League One season at Crawley on Saturday. However, the club faces being deducted a minimum of 15 points by the Football League.

The club have released a statement saying Coventry City Football Club Ltd ‘is likely to be put into liquidation which is expected to result in a points penalty for the club going into the new season’.
It adds: “It is with great regret that a proposed Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) has been rejected by Arena Coventry Limited (ACL). The football club and the Alan Higgs Centre Trust accepted the administrator’s CVA, but the City Council, through ACL, have chosen to reject it – leading to possible liquidation and the risk of a 15-point deduction.’
‘The club will hold urgent meetings with the Football League this afternoon to go through the next steps for the football club.’
This ends any possibility of a compromise agreement for the Sky Blues to play at the Ricoh. Everyone is a loser in this situation, above all the fans. No one in this saga has really played their hand well, but it has never been clear to me what Sisu’s goals or long-term strategy were.
