Big festive travel bill for away fans

Dedicated away fans face a big travel bill over the festive period according to the Football Supporters Federation.  The average cost of tickets, transport and food is £137 involving 402 miles of travel.  The lowest bill is in the Championship (£108) and the highest in the Premiership (£148).

The most expensive average cost is for Bristol City fans at £185 while Doncaster Rovers fans have to find just £81.   Cardiff City fans face the most arduous away trips to Brentford and then Brighton and Hove Albion.   This adds up to 690 miles over two away trips and could involve 14 hours in travel.

Of course, anyone wanting to travel any distance by train on Boxing Day will be out of luck as there are hardly any services.
