Auditors unhappy with Blues accounts

The auditors (BDO) that signed off the latest annual accounts of Birmingham City have questioned whether the club gave them all the required details.   The accountancy group said it was ‘sceptical as to whether we have received all the relevant information’ from the directors of Birmingham City PLC.

The auditors (BDO) that signed off the latest annual accounts of Birmingham City have questioned whether the club gave them all the required details.   The accountancy group said it was ‘sceptical as to whether we have received all the relevant information’ from the directors of Birmingham City PLC.

Leading shareholder Carson Yeung, who continues to face money laundering charges in Hong Kong, emphatically disagreed with the comments.   He said the directors had ‘taken all the steps’ to give the auditors all the information required.  However, taking all the steps may not necessarily equate with all the information being delivered and received.

Birmingham City reported an annual pre-tax loss of £12.4m in the year to 30 June 2011, compared with a profit of £109,000 a year earlier.   Staff costs rose from £36.7m to £45m.

The delayed results for the six months to 31 December will not now be published until August.  It is possible that the Football League may wait until then before ending the club’s transfer ban.
