Attempt to reassure Blackburn fans

Blackburn Rovers managing director Derek Shaw has attempted to reassure fans after recent financial results showed heavy losses at the club.   The club was also revealed to have very high levels of payments to agents.   He said that he would take time to get the club’s finances in line with those of other Championship clubs.

This rather misses the point that a great deal of money was wasted through poor decision-making by he owners.  Reasonably enough, Rovers fans do not think of their club as a Championship one given that it did actually win the Premier League title, the only club not conventionally regarded as a top club to do so.   Finances have to put on an even keel to comply with the Football League’s financial rules, but how can that be squared with an early return to the top flightr?
