Are there transparency issues at Blues?

Football commentator and investigative journalist David Conn has raised a number of issues about governance and transparency at Birmingham City.    These concern the role of Peter Pannu as acting chairman while leading shareholder Carson Yeung deals with allegations of money laundering in Hong Kong.

Football commentator and investigative journalist David Conn has raised a number of issues about governance and transparency at Birmingham City.    These concern the role of Peter Pannu as acting chairman while leading shareholder Carson Yeung deals with allegations of money laundering in Hong Kong.

It should be noted that lawyers acting for Pannu and Yeung have emphasised that they have absolutely nothing to hide.   There is a more general issue about how football clubs are structured in ways that they may be perfectly consistent with company law but perhaps do not reflect their special character as sources of identity for their fans.

In response to the allegations Birmingham City issued a detailed statement refuting them.  Not surprisingly, The Guardian had a somewhat different emphasis in its story on the statement compared with the Birmingham Mail.
