American takeover at Swansea City

Swansea City are in talks with American investors about a £100m takeover of the club.   The Supporters’ Trust would retain its 21 per cent stake and a seat on the board.  The Trust has issued a statement outling its initial reaction to the proposal.

Run by what is essentially a consortium of local businessmen, the Swans were increasingly looking like an anomaly in the super charged world of Premier League finance.

Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan are the prospective purchasers.   Levien is managing general partner of MLS club DC United.   This fits in with a trend for English clubs to be aligned with the owners of MLS franchises, as already happened at Arsenal and Manchester City.
