A done Maple Leaf deal at Liverpool?

Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi has stated that he has agreed terms with Tom Hicks and George Gillett and is negotiating a final deal with them to buy Liverpool.  Certainly, he seems to have been their preferred bidder throughout, although what chairman Martin Broughton and RBS think about it is another matter.  Some view his gazumping as an attempt to drive up the price offered by Kenny Huang which at under £300m is under half of what the current owners want.

Kirdi is now a Canadian resident and his consortium is predominantly Canadian, although with Middle Eastern investors involved as well.  Meanwhile, Kenny Huang has taken a step back and has said that he has registered an expression of interest and not made a bid.

The best interests of the club would be served if the media circus calmed down, expressions of interest were turned into firm bids and they were then evaluated carefully by Barclays Capital to see how well they stand up.  The last thing the club needs is another owner who can’t deliver on their promises.
