A cheap shot at the banks?

It’s popular to take a cheap shot at the banks and this BBC blog has backed up Walter Smith in doing so.   I can accept that Rangers have faced particular constraints in this respect.   But the more general point is that the UK has been living beyond its means in terms of both private and public consumption and it has to be reined in.   That goes particularly for football clubs who admittedly face very special pressures in terms of fans’ expectations.  B

But in the circumstances it can be argued that the banks have behaved with considerable restraint in calling in debts.

As far as Scottish football is concerned, all clubs face financial constraints.  Away from the Old Firm, Queen of the South have taken another following the postponement of tomorrow’s cup tie against Brechin.   That would of itself brought in relatively little money, but the club was hoping to win and get a tie against an Old Firm club to balance the books.

The proposals for changing the structure of Scottish football have not gone down well with fans and it is questionable whether they are the answer.   However, their backers say there is no constructive alternative.
