However, for the 2014-15 season it will tend to benefit top clubs that have a stream of Champions League revenue.   Financial fair play rules often have unintended consequences, allowing top clubs to pull up the ladder behind them and hence underminining rather than boosting competition.

Geey also takes a very detailed look at what Champions League football and the new Premier League broadcasting deal will mean for Liverpool.   His overall conclusion is that the club is on a virtuous upward spiral that it needs to make sure it sustains.
