The club has won the FA Cup once, and their highest-ever league finish was second in the top flight in 1983–84. Southampton Football Club Ltd was floated in January 1997 as part of Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, a property and investment vehicle. On 8 July 2009 the club was purchased by German-born Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr and was passed on to his daughter, Katharina Liebherr, when he died in 2010.
