Early Exit Hits Rangers' Income - 08/08/2008
Rangers' Champions League exit at the hands of FBK Kaunas will hit the club's finances. A conservative estimate of the amount lost by failing to reach the group stage of the Champions' League is around £8m to £10m. On top of that £1m could have been earnt, via gate receipts and television revenue, from the third qualifying round tie with Danish champions Aalborg. In previous seasons, a club like Rangers could soften the blow by increasing their off-pitch commercial activities but, with the financial climate hitting supporters' income, that option is to a large extent closed off. Scottish financial analysts think that Rangers probably set a budget for playing in the Champions League and another for the Uefa Cup, but probably didn't consider not qualifying for either tournament.

Rangers Get Euro Boost - 20/02/2008
Rangers have reported profits of over £3m as a result of their involvement in the Champions League which brought them matches with Barcelona, Lyon and Stuttgart. The club narrowly failed to qualify for the last 16 of the tournament and are hoping for an extended run in the Uefa Cup. Interim results for the six months to 31st December 2007 showed an increase of £3.8m in profit before interest and tax to £3.1m. Figures for 2006 showed a loss of £0.7m. The results also demonstrated a £10m increase in turnover to £33.1m, while retained profit increased by £3.8m to £2.3m. Chairman Sir David Murray emphasised the importance of not just relying on Champions League success but continuing investment throughout the business to deliver long-term stability and success.
