Coventry City Football Club Ltd.
In April 2003 the club announced massive debts totalling just over £20 million but also the completion of the first stage of their new ground – a £60 million multi-purpose, 32,500 capacity stadium (the Ricoh Arena), managed by a company set up by the football club and Coventry City Council. Completed in time for the 2005-06 season, the stadium incorporates a 6,000 square-metre exhibition hall, a hotel and a leisure club. There are plans for a casino and the site is also home to a retail park containing one of Europe’s biggest supermarket stores, operated by Tesco. Camera and photocopier manufacturer Ricoh’s sponsorship deal, rumoured to be worth £10 million over 10 years, came about after the stadium’s initial sponsor, the motor firm Jaguar that was traditionally based in the city, pulled out.
