Reading Get Supermarket Backing - 22/06/2008
Reading have become the first football club to be sponsored by a supermarket after signing a deal with Waitrose. The food retail arm of the John Lewis Partnership, with an up market and 'green' reputation, Waitrose is headquartered in Bracknell, eleven miles from Reading's ground. The fee for the one year deal is understood to be six figures but probably at the lower end of the range, given the current state of the market. As well as appearing on the home and away kits in the coming season, Waitrose is also negotiating a contract to supply food and drink products at the Madejski stadium.
Club Sale Developments - 15/04/2008
Reading has hired Citigroup to help it find a buyer for its stadium and 'franchise' according to Sports Business Journal. The report claimed that owner John Madejski is seeking up to £108m for the club and stadium. Citigroup declined comment on whether it is representing Reading. Dan Jones from Deloitte and Touche told the Sports Business Journal that Reading is most likely to be sold to a foreign purchaser. Ten of the Premiership teams have been sold within the last five years and only one has been bought by an English buyer. Jones said that Premiership teams generally sell for one to two times their previous season's turnover.
Royals Looking For New Shirt Deal - 30/02/2008
Reading have taken the unusual step of putting themselves on the open market as they attempt to get a bigger slice of the £70m a year shirt sponorship market. The team's three year deal with copying giant Kyocera comes to an end this season, but Reading believe they are worth more than the estimated £500,000 a year Kyocera have been paying and expect other bids. Reading's 6-4 defeat away to Spurs helped to register a record 4.6m audience for Match of the Day.
Reading In The Black - 30/12/2007
After several years of losses, Reading owner John Madejski has fulfilled his ambition of seeing Reading trade in the black. Its first season in the Premiership saw pre-tax profits of £6.6m for the year to June 2007, against a £6.5m loss in the previous 12 months. Sales for the latest period were £49.9m, nearly three times the £17.8m generated in previous year. Much of the profit is being reinvested and Madjeski plans to increase stadium capacity and build a new £2m office block and media centre. However, Madjeski has made it clear that he would be willing to sell the club should a suitable offer materialise.
