Magpies Deny Takeover Bid - 24/08/2007
Chairman Chris Mort has dismissed the latest takeover speculation as 'absolute rubbish'. Without naming mames, he suggested that there may have been a deliberate attempt 'to cause disruption to the club by spreading so many false rumours.' It has been reported that Toon hero Alan Shearer had been approached by a group of North-East businessman to front a £250m bid for the club. There have also been suggestions that associates of owner Mike Ashley made contact with PCP, a third-party financing company, in order to invite Dubai Investment Capital to abandon their purusit of Liverpool in favour of Newcastle but both stories have been emphatically denied.
