Redknapp Interested in Bournemouth - 20/01/2008
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is attempting to put together a consortium to take over the League One club that went into administration this month with debts of about £4m. However, his efforts to rescue the club where he began his managerial career in 1982 could be blocked by Football League rules that prevent an individual having an interest in two clubs. However, 'Arry is adept at finding a way around such obstacles and has suggested putting his son Jamie in to run the club. Redknapp still lives in the area and has a sentimental attachment to the club. He commented, 'It's a great little football club with a nice little stadium and they get crowds of 5,000 to 6,000 even when they are struggling.'

Bournemouth are the latest club to go into administration. Given that they were re-launched as the first community club in 1997, it is worth looking at what has happened to them since then...

Bournemouth Move A Step Closer To Administration - 20/01/2008
The Cherries have confirmed that they have served a notice of intention to appoint an administrator. By serving the notice the club, which is reported to be £4m in debt, can now gain a period of protection from its creditors while the board assesses the financial position - they have up to March 27th to make their next move. Club chairman Jeff Mostyn has insisted that this does not mean that the club will definitely go into administration, but it is looking increasingly likely. The chairman claimed that the action 'was taken to prevent our current negotiations being frustrated by aggressive and unhelpful creditors.' The club is already rooted at the bottom of League 1 and a ten point penalty for going into administration would almost certainly condemn them to relegation, further damaging their long-term prospects.
