Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nayan has reclaimed his place at the top of the Four Four Two rich list.    Last year he was overtaken by QPR’s Lakshmi Mittal, but rising oil prices have put Sheikh Mansour back into first place, boosting his wealth by £3bn to £20bn.

Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich (worth £7.4bn) slips back into fourth place, his lowest ranking since arriving in English football in the summer of 2003.   He has been overtaken by Alisher Usmanov, a major shareholder in Arsenal whose wealth has been boosted by rising metal prices.   The Liebherr family, owners of Southampton, are in fifth place.

David Beckham is the highest ranked active player with an estimated wealth of £100m.  Michael Owen is second on the list but his wealth is just 40 per cent the size of Beckham’s.  Rio Ferdinand, whose extensive business interests have attracted some criticism as a distraction, is in third place with a worth of £34m.

Ryan Giggs (£27m) is now worth more than Wayne Rooney (£25m).  Rooney’s wealth has slumped from £37m to £25m after a difficult year on and off the pitch.
