Redditch taken over

Blue Square North club Redditch United have been acquired by local businessman Chris Swan in a takeover that wipes out their debt.   The property developer had agreed to take over Kidderminster Harriers last month but pulled out because he was unsure of the true extent of their debts.


Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if Redditch can avoid relegation.  To add to their woes, the Conference gave them a five point deduction last Friday for submitting misleading information as part of the league’s Financial Reporting Initiative.

Elsewhere in the non-league it remains uncertain whether Halesowen Town can survive despite the manager and players agreeing to play without pay for the rest of the season.   The club needs time to find new investors after their main benefactor, Godfrey Ingram, pulled out.


Ryman Premier club Croydon Athletic have avoided another crisis after their Danish owners Fordboldselkasbet filed for bankruptcy.   They acquired the club after owner Mazhar Majeed had his bank accounts frozen after alleged involvement in cricket spot-fixing.   However, chief executive Chris Roots has stepped in to keep things going.
