Quiet transfer window

The transfer window appears to have been relatively quiet, particularly at the lower end of the table.  Of course, the January window is always quieter than the one in July because it is thought to be more difficult to obtain value.   The high spending in the summer may have led to more restrained spending now.

The transfer window appears to have been relatively quiet, particularly at the lower end of the table.  Of course, the January window is always quieter than the one in July because it is thought to be more difficult to obtain value.   The high spending in the summer may have led to more restrained spending now.

‘While the summer window saw a record level of transfer spending, so far we have seen spending in January being slightly more reserved,’ said Dan Jones of Deloitte Sports Business.   ‘However, 2014/15 is still a record season for Premier League spending with clubs having spent over £900m, significantly ahead of the previous record of £760m.’

Premier League football clubs spent £130m in this year’s January transfer window, the same amount as in January 2014.  The biggest spenders were Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, which between them accounted for around half of the total, according to Deloitte.  A flurry of last-minute deals worth some £45m helped to lift the total.
