The Premier League can pay by far the highest wages in the world. Only a few clubs elsewhere, such as Real Madrid and Barcelona, pay comparable wages.
Does all this money provide quality football? Clearly not always, although Arsenal’s victory over Bayern Munich last night has temporarily silenced critics.
