Everton FC fans plan protest
The Blue Union coalition of Everton FC supporters' groups is planning a protest march outside Goodison Park before Saturday's game against Aston Villa. The coalition has reiterated its call for Bill Kenwright, the chairman and majority shareholder, to sell up and leave. After another transfer window that produced little excitement with just three players coming in on loan, a growing proportion of fans is concerned that the club is stagnating under his leadership.
The group has emphasised that this is not just a 'Kenwright out' campaign. It wants the sale of the football club taken out of Kenwright's hands after his long and fruitless search for a buyer. What they have in mind is something like the arrangement made at Liverpool where Martin Broughton was appointed as independent chairman with the task of overseeing the sales process.
EFC Fans Protest
As the previous comment says, over 90% of us WON'T be marching on Saturday. Kenwright may not be ideal and certainly short on funds, but he does have the best interests of the club at heart. That obviously counts for very little if he can't hack it, but it does mean he's not likely to be pressured into flogging the club to any get rich quick merchant who might send us down the Portsmouth route or, God forbid, saddle us with the likes of Hicks and Gillette, who nearly destroyed the much more resilient brand at Liverpool.
All of that is not to say that the Blue Union's public airing of their case doesn't have merit and if it raises the profile of the potential that undoubtedly exists at Everton then great. It's also worth noting that their stated aim is not necessarily to oust Kenwright but to get more talent on the board, if only on an interim basis to facilitate/search for a buyer for the club. What bothers me about marches is that the people who join them may have different agendas from the organisers. I'll bet there will be "Kenwright Out" chanting from a lot of the participants.

1 Percent?
I think 1% is being generous ...
Definately wont be at the march - but will be at the game getting behind the team.
If the press was full of reports "I tried to buy Everton but they wouldn't let me ... it's over priced ... etc" I may think otherwise - but I see NO ONE prepared to buy or invest in the club.
If The Blue Union can provide evidence of a person/persons willing to put their money in to the club they should reveal this to the World or at least give some indication that there is someone waiting to take over. Otherwise, it just looks like a big sulk.
I find it funny how many people in the football World (managers, players, chairmen and fans) respect Everton F.C. and the running of the club in difficult circumstances, yet a very small minority of fans think it is "armageddon".
Yes - we all want more, but you have to live within your means. Hey, if everyone carried on with their type of mentality we would end up in a global recession - God forbid.
We cant spend what we haven't got, and yes the current board have made mistakes but show me a person or business that hasn't. Just because other clubs are being frivolous doesn't mean we should. Furthermore, if their backers pull out, like what almost happened at Liverpool, then those clubs may just be facing their "armageddon" for real.
Onwards and upwards, steady ship - just needs all hands on deck!
1 PER CENT IF THEY ARE LUCKY
Well said mate! The blue union must not have seen this post and article yet otherwise they would be on here spewing their bile and hijacking the forum making it look like they are in the majority.
1 Per Cent?
You are mistaken if you think only 1 per cent are unhappy with the running of the club. Liverpool are said to have over 1 million fans, did 1 million march? No,but they got the job done. Kenwright has to let go of his train set before it is too late.
Delusions of fan power
Liverpools fans marching did nothing. The Bank appointed Broughton to oversee the sale not the board of LFC. If you want Barclays doing that for Everton you need to lay off the recreational pharmaceuticals. Liverpool got a sale because they were a global brand available for a fire-sale price thanks to the Bank. If NESV hadn't come in they could have, easily, seen themselves put into administration.
Everton do not have the global brand to interest new owners and quite urgently need a new ground if they are to grow their bottom line. Everton finding themselves in the Broughton-LFC position could very easily have a very different outcome. Wont be whinging about trainsets if Barclays drag the bank into administration will you?.
