West Ham United have increased the capacity at the Olympic Stadium to 60,000, such has been the demand for season tickets ahead of their move to Stratford this summer.

The club have revealed that they are adding 6,000 seats on top of the original 54,000, ranking the stadium as the joint largest in London alongside The Emirates, and the second largest in the Premier League behind Old Trafford.

Late last year, the Hammers announced that the number of supporters registered on the season ticket priority list five times exceeded the number of seats available, a figure that has since been boosted thanks to the impressive form of Slaven Bilic’s team, who have reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and are challenging for a top four league finish that would bring Champions League football to their debut campaign in the new stadium.

The Hammers will leave their famous home of Upton Park this summer and relocate to the Olympic Stadium

 Upton Park has been located in Upton Park, east London since 1904 and it has a current capacity of 35,016

Vice-Chairman Karren Brady said: ‘This announcement is further evidence of the upward trajectory of this Club. We are on course for what could be our most successful Premier League performance ever and our ambitions to finish in the top six and break into Europe are very much within reach.

‘West Ham fans are famous the world over for their wonderful support. They have demonstrated this once again at matches this season and in the way that they have embraced the move to the new ground. We are delighted to be able to reward that magnificent support by releasing additional Season Tickets and bring even more visitors to the Park to enjoy all that it has to offer.

David Edmonds, Chairman of the E20 body responsible for converting the Olympic Stadium, added: ‘It is fantastic to see such a high demand for West Ham United tickets as it shows how eager people are to watch football at the Stadium. By meeting this demand the use of the venue will be maximised, increasing its revenue and the return to the taxpayer.

West Ham also announced on Wednesday that they have submitted plans for a spectacular digital wrap at the new stadium, which would see giant HD screens measuring 83m wide installed on the exterior walls.
