Hull Gain £44m Boost In Turnover

24/05/2008

Hull City have gone from being a £16m to a £60m turnover business after their victory in this afternoon's Championship play off final. Victory went to the bigger of the two clubs. The Tigers have a Premiership style stadium in the shape of the £43.5m Kingston Communications stadium which opened in 2002. If Bristol City had gone up their turnover would have increased five times compared with a multiplier of about four for Hull. Paradoxically, Bristol City face a challenge if they are to stay in the Championship. Their turnover this year has been about £8m. They have plans for a new stadium, but this is unlikely to be finished before 2012. Bristol City chairman Stephen Lansdown admitted that Bristol City were behind Hull in terms of stadium infrastructure with the Yorkshire club earning considerable conference and banqueting income. He commented, 'One of the reasons we have got to build a new stadium is that we have got to have the ability to put more people in the ground. To be honest, we would struggle to survive in the Championship if we stayed just as we are, because we don't generate enough revenue.'
