Walsall then Highfield 2 for Sky Blues

Coventry City are planning to play their games at Walsall for three years while a ‘Highfield Road 2’ is constructed nearer the city centre.   They have been impressed by a similar stadium built by Rotherham United in a town centre location which has a ‘modular design’ which means that it can be expanded later if required.

Many fans were admittedly not happy about the move away from Highfield Road, even though it was in need of substantial updating which could not have been achieved easily.   Arguably the Ricoh was too ambitious a stadium while the regeneration stimulus it was hoped it would provide has never really arrived.

However, the real issue here is who is really in charge of the club?   The club is supposedly in administration, but given the complex legal structure it is far from clear who owns the ‘golden share’ that enables the club to play in the Football League.   What is particularly of concern is that it is not clear that this can be sorted out in time to enable the club to prepare properly for the new season.

This is starting to rival Portsmouth as a big mess that has undermined a one time top flight club that personified the hopes of the city of Coventry.   Eventually the fans were able to take charge at Pompey. At Coventry they have to try and unravel the legal situation as a first step.
