The way out at Coventry?

The political reporter of the Coventry Evening Telegraph Les Reid has been following the sad saga of Coventry City and he has provided a very full in depth analysis of what has happened going back to errors made in relation to building the Ricoh Arena and its subsequent ‘rescue’.   In many respects it was an overly ambitious ‘grand projet’ but we are where we are.

As a very experienced reporter, Reid has never seen a dispute in which the parties have become so entrenched or the rivalries so bitter.  This has spread to divisions among supporters with those who continue to support the team at Northampton derided by others.

Reid does not rule out the possibility of a new stadium being built in Coventry.   But he controversially suggests that the eventual solution may be to sell the Ricoh to Sisu/Otium so that the Sky Blues could return there.   However, many would see that as a victory for a company that is reviled in many quarters.

Many years ago I worked on the literature on rancorous conflicts.  Many of them are eventually resolved, sometimes through exhaustion, but usually at great cost to everyone involved in the meantime.  Fans at many clubs such as Portsmouth have faced very difficult situations, but the complexity and difficulty of the Coventry situation is unique.
