Salisbury City FC Go Into Administration

Blue Square Premiership club Salisbury City have gone into administration. A winding-up order was filed against the club with Salisbury reportedly owing the taxman around £200,000. The club was put up for sale for £1 in April, but no buyer has been found. It was considered by the club that administration was the only hope of getting a buyer in. Salisbury is a ‘stand alone’ city with a good sized population that should be able to sustain a Conference club, but the cathedral city does not have a strong football tradition.

Elsewhere in the non-league Lewes have been granted a three month adjournment from a winding-up petition. They could only raise £30,000 to take to the High Court last week out of the £110,000 they owe the taxman, but now have until the start of December to pay back a further £30,000 after a finance plan was agreed. Elsewhere, the Conference had accepted the resignation of Farsley Celtic from the Blue Square North and the gates of the ground were locked. They owe HM Revenue and Customs around £200,000. A consortium led by John Palmer had pulled out of a takeover offer earlier in the week after two of the backers withdrew, but he made a last minute intervention to save the club and keep it playing football.
