Arrest made in relation to Cobblers finances

Reports are circulating that a man has been arrested and bailed in relation to an ongoing police investigation into the finances of Northampton Town FC.   BBC Northampton is claiming that the man arrested is former club chairman David Cardoza, but the police have refused to name the individual concerned.

Pope’s team is coming home

The football team supported by Pope Francis, CA San Lorenzo de Almagro, is to have a new stadium built on the one it was evicted from 36 years ago.   The picture above shows him displaying their traditional red and blue colours.

Former Leeds boss loses court action

A former managing durector of Leeds United has been ordered to pay more than £121,500 in costs to a London lawyer he accused of ‘human trafficking’.  

David Haigh brought a private prosecution against his former business partner Peter Gray alleging that he conspired with two colleagues to entice him to Dubai with the false promise of a job.  He was then arrested and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for embezzlement and breach of trust.

Messi to face tax charges

Lionel Messi and his father, who is his manager, are to face tax fraud charges and Spanish prosecutors are calling for a 22-month jail term.   They deny any wrongdoing and blame a former agent of the player.  Of course, even if they were found gullty, this would not necessarily be the sentence that was handed down.

Gulls could close

Torquay United could be forced to close.   One problem is that attendances have been falling.  Only 1,558 watched their home game against Guiseley, 250 less than their break even figure of 1,800.
