A list of the top twenty Spanish liga football clubs as ordered by average home attendances (domestic league matches only) for season 2012-13.

Barcelona retained their top spot, averaging over 71,000 spectators per match with Real Madrid close behind, averaging 70,000. Atletico de Madrid ranked third with an average home attendance at Estadio Vicente Calderón of 44,295.

The average attendance for La Liga was 28,235 and for the second tier (Segunda División – Liga Adelante) football clubs it was 6,785.

Paris Saint Germain retained their top spot, averaging 43,235 spectators per match. Lille OSC jumped into second position after moving into a new, 50,000 capacity stadium (Stade Pierre-Mauroy) and achieving an average turnout in Ligue 1 of 40,590 spectators per match. Olympique de Marseille slumped to third with a 33,475 average.

AFC Ajax headed the list of the top thirty football clubs in Belgium and the Netherlands as ranked by average match attendances (domestic league matches – number of spectators) in season 2012/13.

The top tier in Holland is called the Eredivisie and consists of 18 clubs. In season 2012/13 the average attendance was 19,620 and the championship was won by AFC Ajax (its 32nd championship).

Borussia Dortmund headed the list of top thirty Bundesliga football clubs by average match attendances for season 2009/10. Their average home gate of 77,245 represented a 3 per cent increase on 2008/09.

In second position was Bayern Munich and third Schalke 04 – occupying the same positions in the table as the previous year.

The Bundesliga is operated by the Deutsche Fußball Liga and is composed of two divisions:, each has 18 teams and there is relegation and promotion between them.

 

Average Attendances – English Football Divisions – 1994/95-2009/10

Premier League attendances increased in this period by over 45 per cent, second-tier attendances by approx 65 per cent, third-tier by 25 per cent and fourth-tier by 25 per cent.

Overall, spectator numbers for the four divisions rose by 47 per cent but appear to have tapered off very slightly in last couple of years.
