Oldham Athletic face a winding-up petition today brought by HM Revenue and Customs, although claim the matter has been resolved.
A statement on the clubs’ website said, ‘We are aware of the winding up petition brought by HMRC scheduled for Monday June 20 and our legal advisors are dealing with it, The liability on which the petition is based was paid in full last month.’
Last December the club had difficulty in paying their players and they were paid late for three months.

Oldham were in the Premier League when it was founded, but now have been in League One longer than any other club. Like other clubs near Manchester, they face competition for fans from City and United.
In article about Oldham in this week’s Spectator, Anthony Whitehead refers to the ‘rain-swept football ground’ which is apparently the third highest in the country.
He states, ‘Oldham is now the most deprived town in England, according to the Office for National Statistics. Crime and unemployment are high; investment, wages and prospects generally are pitifully low. Boarded-up shops and dilapidated factories tell a sorry tale of economic woe.’
