It is evident that Newcastle fans are very unhappy about the fact that their club has finished bottom of the Premier League spending table in the transfer window,   Manager Alan Pardew has explained that there have been financial constraints but that only worries them even more.  Fans organised in United for Newcastle are threatening to stage protests when they return to action after the international break.

Influential fans’ website nufc.com suggested that the manager had been ‘hung out to dry’ by Mike Ashley, the owner, whose popularity soars and falls, and Joe Kinnear, the director of football, who seems so far to have offered as much value as a defective spare tyre since his controversial arrival.

The website commented that Pardew’s attempt to justify the policy represented ‘sheer unadulterated flannel [which] confirms the club were never seriously chasing any targets in the last window.   Kinnear’s task was to create a smokescreen, provoking everybody and misleading us into expecting some positive action to take the club forward.’

The statement continued: ‘The shortcomings of many previous seasons have been repeated in what may be the ultimate false economy and short-sighted piece of nonsense.   The damage done to the club grows more incalculable.’
