New challenges for Vale

Port Vale FC face new financial challenges after they were told they would have to start paying back a £2.5m loan to Stoke-on-Trent city council.  The loan was originally made in 2007 but the club was given a two year repayment holiday because of the recession.   That has now come to an end.

The club faces a dilemma.  If they push up ticket prices, fans may resist paying them in the current economic climate.  Sensibly, the club has ruled out this course of action.  If they sell players, that may also discourage fans.   Really the club needs new investment but that applies to lots of clubs and some of them are more attractive prospects than Port Vale.
