Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has Malyasian tanks on his lawn this morning after owner Vincent Tan was reported to be upset by a request for the squad to be strengthened by three players in the January transfer window.
Such a request does not seem to be unreasonable if it helped the Bluebirds to stay in the top flight. Indeed, the cost might in large part be repaid by pushing the club up the table, thus earning a greater payment from the Premier League at the end of the season. However, Tan is upset by what he claims is a £15m overspend on players over the summer.
The patience of Cardiff fans has already been tested by the introduction of red shirts to replace the traditional blue colours and if Mackay went his departure would be greeted with fury.
