They are eleventh in the Deloitte Money League with annual revenues of €281m, but there is a big gap between them and the top clubs and it is widening. Real Madrid’s revenue is €587m and there are a number of clubs just below them such as Barcelona and Manchester United. In particular, Bayern Munich have revenues of €474m.
A decade ago the club was in big financial trouble as a result of over spending and came ‘within a millimetre of going bust.’ However, the last financial year was a successful one with revenues boosted by player sales.
Average attendances were an amazing 81,178, boosted by lots of standing room. However, match day revenues are low.
The club is trying to boost commercial revenues and has opened its first overseas office in Singapore, but this is a competitive market.
