Juventus were founded as Sport Club Juventus in late 1897 by pupils from the Massimo D’Azeglio Lyceum school in Turin and then renamed as ‘Foot-Ball Club Juventus’ two years later. The club joined the Italian Football Championship in 1900. It is the most popular team in Italy as measured by supporters clubs and the largest as measured by turnover, although match attendances are only 4th or 5th highest in Serie A. The club claims a figure of 170 million ‘tifosi’ (supporters) worldwide. Home games are played at the Juventus Stadium – capacity 41,507.
