Fernandes favours new stadium

QPR owner Tony Fernandes has made it clear that he would like to see a new stadium for the club.  Compared with the 19,000 capacity at Loftus Road, he wants a stadium that would accommodate 40,000-45,000, probably in the White City area.

However, to make the project viable, sharing it with another club is on the agenda.  But who would that be?   It would be of no interest to Chelsea.   Brentford would rattle around in a ground that size.  The obvious candidates are another borough of Hammersmith side, Fulham.  But their fans would be reluctant to leave Craven Cottage.  Indeed, I have always liked its riverside location, special atmosphere and the walk across the park before and after the game.

Fernandes has also revealed that, frustrated in his attempts to take over West Ham, he considered acquiring Charlton: it was cheap and would have been a good business deal.   However, his heart would not have been in it as The Valley is too close to West Ham (although separated by the River Thames).
