The announced attendance for Arsenal’s Champions League game against Dynamo Zagreb was 58,798, but it seems that the actual attendance was around 50,000.   Clubs, of course, customarily include season ticket holders in attendance figures whether they are there or not.

Tim Payton, spokesman for the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust (AST) said that wealthier fans can pick and choose games: ‘For them owning a season ticket is a convenience with guaranteed no-hassle entry to the big games.  This is an inevitable and sad consequence of corporate areas and expensive ticket prices.’

He continued, ‘If you can afford £4,000 for a club-level season ticket, then you can probably afford to leave it unused a few times a season more than the person who has scraped together £950 for the cheapest ticket.’

AST wants the club to change their policy and allow fans to buy tickets from other fans on match days, rather than insisting on 24 hours’ notice.  It also wants the club to stop insisting on fans selling at full price.
