Sports agreed to defer payments from the 20 per cent sell on clause after learning of Stockport’s financial problems. But after administrators were called in, their chance of getting their money has diminished.

Sports chairman Tony Whiteside said, ‘We are a club with a turnover of £75,000 a year so to lose that kind of money is severely damaging. I’m not really sure how we’re going to survive this.’
Elsewhere in the non-league, it looks as if Chester City, relegated from League 2 to the conference, are heading for administration. City had hoped that a takeover would be completed by property tycoon Gary Metcalfe in March, but talks have stalled. They would face a ten points deduction when they enter the Conference.
