"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

New start for Ugandan football?

Ugandan football faces severe financial problems.   Gate money in the year amounts to Shs53m, but the league costs Shs2bn a year to run.   The difference has been made up by individual donations, but this is not a reliable source of income and is dependent on the whim of wealthy individuals.   Players have often not been paid for long periods of time and teams have not turned up for matches.

Now a Uganadan Super League has been formed with the help of Fifa and it is hoped this will put the game on a new footing.  In particular it is hoped that the new league will attract sponsorship and a television deal has been negotiated.
