City top value table

Manchester City have topped the value league compiled by ING Direct Bank which ranks Premiership clubs based on how much fans pay for their season tickets compared to how the team performed during the 2011-12 season and how many goals they scored.

City have the second cheapest tickets in the Premier League.   The lowest cost season ticket in the Etihad is £260.   Only Blackburn had a cheaper ticket at £225.

Wigan Athletic came second, although possibly their fans thought that they got better value towards the end of the season which often seems to be the case with Wigan.    Queen’s Park Rangers came bottom.

Speaking on Radio 5, Rogan Taylor from the University of Liverpool (who has a season ticket in the Kop) expressed some doubts about the methodology used which places a lot of weight on goals scored.     Liverpool came second bottom in the table.

Even so, most Liverpool fans would admit that it has been a disappointing season with just six home league wins and 24 goals scored.   But value can come from other things than results, including the experience of chanting, cheering and sharing despair with familiar faces you only see at the match.
