Bid for Coventry City

Reports that American millionaire Preston Haskell has tabled a bit for Coventry City and the 50 per cent of the Ricoh Stadium owned by the Higgs Trust have been confirmed. Haskell was in Coventry for nine hours of talks earlier in the week.

One of the continuing problems at the Sky Blues has been the lack of any stake in the stadium, but the Haskell backed bid for a share of the stadium would only go ahead if ownership of the golden share could be secured.

One of the continuing problems at the Sky Blues has been the lack of any stake in the stadium, but the Haskell backed bid for a share of the stadium would only go ahead if ownership of the golden share could be secured.

Whether the bid succeeds depends in large part on what the administrator rules later today on who owns the golden share which enables the club to take part in the Football League.

Nothing is known about the reaction of current owners Sisu or whether they will mount a counter bid which they would be able to do as the largest creditor. There is also the possibility of further legal challenges should the administrator rule in a way that is unfavourable to Sisu when what the club needs is stability so that it can prepare for next season.
