That is the advice to Spurs fans from the Evening Standard.   This may be just another sub-standard article from a paper that often fails to scale the heights of football journalism, but it does make some interesting points.

The writer says that Spurs fans are a pretty morose bunch.  That seems to be true of fans at most clubs. Many Charlton fans have been moaning all season despite the club being top of the league since September.  However, if they don’t play like Barcelona it’s not good enough.   My impression ofd Spurs fans is that they do tend to be a bit more up and down than fans of other clubs, but perhaps that just reflects the season that has just finished.

Leaving aside the ridiculous rumours about Harry Redknapp going to Chelsea, the real challenge now for Spurs is to retain and attract first class players when they are not in the Champions League. For many top players that now determines whether they will join a club: playing in the Europa League is the equivalent of an outing with the reserves.

The article says it’s all about expectations.   The problem is that expectations rise all the time, in life generally, but especially in football.   There must be at least fifty clubs whose fans think they really ought to be in the Premier League.
