Battle on to control Bones

A battle is on for control of impoverished Northamptonshire side Rothwell Town.  Known as the Bones because of the unique collection of human remains in the nearby church, they may play in the United Counties League next season having resigned from the Southern (Zamaretto) League.

Controversial Kettering supremo Imraan Ladak has offered the debt-ridden club the cash they need to stay in business.  He wants to buy their ground at Cecil Street and the Rothwell board are backing him. Blue Square Premier outfit Kettering have an expiring lease on their Rockingham Road ground.  Ladak does not plan to move Kettering to Cecil Street, but he might sell the ground to raise capital, although his intentions remain unclear.

Local businessman Pino Colonna  who is the club’s sponsor has made a counter offer.  He has offered to find the money to cover debts reported to be £350,000.   One has to ask how a club at that level can run up such big debts, even if they are half that amount.  Colonna would want repayments of £10,000 a year for five years.

Not so far from Kettering is an under utilised modern stadium at Irthlingborough.   However, it belongs to their rivals Rushden and Diamonds and a ground share can be ruled out.
