An effective foreign owner

There are good foreign owners of football clubs and others who seem to be on an ego trip or unwilling to take advice.   The same could be said of domestic owners.   Milan Mandaric has owned three clubs and has done an effective job.   He says that the secret is to respect England’s football heritage and be prepared to make tough decisions.

The majority of supporters at Portsmouth, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday are positive about Mandaric.   He got a financial return from taking Portsmouth to the top flight and lost £6m at Leicester.   He will make a profit on Wednesday if they are promoted.

He could have made more money investing outside football, but he got a real buzz from his participation. At 76 years old, we may not have seen the last of him.   There are clubs that could benefit from his track record of delivering stability to clubs in trouble.

One such club is Birmingham City where there have been five expressions of interest in the parent company, Birmingham International Holdings Ltd.   Another would be Coventry City, now in danger of relegation to League 2, but Sisu have never shown any inclination to sell the club.
