Buying Activity At Celtic - 06/01/2008
Non-executive director Tom Allison has splashed out over £1m to boost his already considerable stake in Celtic, the public company that owns the football club. He purchased 1.6m shares in the Scottish Premier League champions at a price of 64p each to take his total holding to 3.36m shares, giving him a 3.79% stake of the company's issued ordinary shares and control over 3.26% of the voting rights. In November he bought 1.25m ordinary shares at a price of 60p each (back in the summer of 2006 the shares hit a low of around 23p). A number of individuals are building stakes in the Glasgow club, including John Fisher, son of Don Fisher, founder of the Gap clothing chain. He announced before Christmas control of more than 3.24% of the voting rights in the company. The last set of results for the period to 30 June 2007 showed turnover up 31 per cent and profits before tax of £15m compared with a loss of £4.22m in 2006.
