Birmigham Bid 'Dead In Water' - 19/12/2007
Chairman David Gold has labelled the takeover bid for the club by Hong Kong based Carson Yeung 'dead in the water.' Gold added, 'It is still technically plausible that Mr Yeung could walk into the football club and put a cheque on the table but, according to takeover rules, there is a time factor - and that time factor has expired.' Yeung had to find an extra £35m to complete the takeover that he set in motion in the summer with a £15.5m purchase of 29.9 per cent of the club's shares. Gold also played down reports that Vagit Alekperov, an Azerbijan billionaire, was a prospective purchaser. Alekperov is the world's 48th richest man according to the Forbes rich list and has also been linked with the purchase of Spurs. But a spokesman said that neither he nor Lukoil, Russia's largest independent oil producer, were interested in buying City.
