Swans make £600,000 profit

Swansea City made a profit of £593,901 in the year ending 31 May 2010.  This compared with a net loss of £457,020 in the previous year.   Turnover increased by £770,000 but operating expenditure increased by £3.2m reflecting the cost of investing in a squad able to challenge for the Premiership.


The increased spending was financed by the transfer fee and compensation received from Wigan Athletic for Roberto Martinez and his support staff.   The money from this source came to just over £3m.


The size of the support base and how far it can be expanded given the catchment area remains a concern.   The club's support has edged up a little with an average home attendance of 15,600 compared with 14,893 for 2008-9 and 13,520 for 2007-8.   The club has a strong away following and the potential for increased attendances is shown by the 19,309 who watched the victory over Leeds.
