Stockport County was founded by members of the Wycliffe Congregational Church in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, becoming Stockport County Football Club in 1890 to reflect Stockport becoming a County Borough. They joined the Football League in 1900, and have competed in it continuously since 1905. It is one of four professional football clubs in England to be fully owned by their supporters after the Stockport County Supporters' Trust took ownership of the club in July 2005. The home stadium is Edgeley Park. They are nicknamed The Hatters, although they are usually referred to by supporters simply as County.
