"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

Stags return home

Mansfield Town will return to their Field Mill ground on Boxing Day when (weather permitting) they will play another former league club Grimsby Town.   Chairman John Radford has reached an agreement with landlord Keith Haslam.

The win-win situation for the two parties to the dispute was to reach a settlement, at least for the time being.   Haslam had no other tenants in view for the ground while the Football Conference had taken a firm line with the Stags, warning that any plan to use 'B' grade grounds at Ilkeston and Alfreton would not be possible under competition rules.    Using Notts County's ground was not feasible because of fixture clashes.

John Radford argued that the previous rent of £140,000 a year was too high given an ongoing legal dispute.   The rest of the season's rent will be paid at a reduced rate in an account held by Haslam's solicitors while the legal case is pursued.
