The window is certainly destabilising as agents, one of the main beneficiaries use the media to drum up trade. As soon as the summer window closes, the speculation begins. Of course, any decision would have to be taken by Fifa and the transfer window system has its origins in a competition policy deal done with the European Union.

Clubs do, however, the chance to rectify errors made in the summer. Given what is at stake in terms of a Champions League place or even avoiding relegation, they are likely to be reluctant to se the window go.
