Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan has expressed his concern about the financial situation at Rangers because of its impact on Scottish football as a whole and the local economy.

He is also clearly concerned about the role of Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley at the club in terms of whether dual ownership rules are being breached.   Ashley was allowed to acquire a shareholding of up to 10 per cent provided he was not involved in the management of the club or exert influence there, but his recent involvement would suggest that he may not have observed these requirements strictly.

Regan has so far been dealing with Ashley’s lawyers, but hopes to have a face-to-face meeting soon.
