The troubles of Rushden & Diamonds have multiplied after the club lost the staging of the England C International Challenge Trophy with Portugal on May 19th.  The match has been moving to the Sixfields ground of rivals Northampton Town.

The club’s bank accounts have been frozen after a winding-up petition issued by Cloverdale Catering over a £50,000 debt.   The majority of the squad haven’t been paid for April despite being issued with payslips.  Five players on whom the club have an option for next season or are under 24 and are seen as assets have been paid.

The club has been run by chief executive Steve Beasant and his son Liam since December when they took over from Keith Cousins.   Long-time supporter Gill Wignall is taking legal action over a £110,00 loan, but has said that she will return to help the club if the Beasants aren’t there.

Former chairman Cousins who owns the land on which Nene Park stands is seen by Diamonds supporters as their main hope of salvation.   He has agreed to chair a fans’ forum on Tuesday evening to discuss the options.
